The Child Detention in Nauru Must Be Stopped: Royal Commission To Investigate

Children's rights have been a much talked about matter ever since they were first introduced. Even though this type of right has been around for a considerable amount of time, there are still those who seem to violate them on a constant basis. These horrible violations were even kept hidden from the public eye and were only revealed due to the leaking of various documents.

It is important to keep in mind that these leaked documents date way back to the year 2000, as pointed out by an article from Stuff.co.nz. This means that there is a sizeable chance that these infirmities persisted throughout the turn of the century up until current times.

Among the violations these leaked documents show include sexual assault and varying instances of degrading the children for their race among other factors. However, what takes the cake for the most horrifying infringement is the fact that there is a detention camp for child refugees located in Nauru. This is where the children are kept in abject conditions for long periods of time, which is sickening to say the least.

New Zealand and various neighboring countries have signed a convention, an agreement, which aims to uphold the rights of all children even those who are refugees. Aside from upholding the rights of children, this agreement also aims to give a fair chance to immigrants and refugees to live a fruitful life in the involved countries. If refugees and immigrants feel that they are safe in a certain country then there is a higher chance that they will flourish later on in life.

The reports of child detention in Nauru have reached many high-ranking officials including the United Nations High Commissioner. A report from ABC News also suggests that this issue is to be investigated by the Royal Commission.
