Teen Driving: Chevrolet Will Extend Teen Driver Tech Feature on 10 of its 2017 Automobiles

In order to moderate the fears and concerns of parents on teen driving, Chevrolet, a car company that produces and sells wide variety of automobiles, will extend its Teen Driver Tech system onto their 2017 SUVs, trucks and cars. This will provide parents more supervision of their teens' driving activities and help limit risky driving behaviors.

According to a report posted in LeftLaneNews, Chevrolet conducted a survey on teen driving in Harris Poll and stated that lots of parents with teenagers fear about their kids' driving activities more than any parental lists of fear and concerns like alcohol drug use, and sexual activity, etc. Chevrolet recognizes this important matter and as a result, decided to extend their Teen Driver system on ten of their 2017 automobile models.

The Teen Driver feature of the company includes an in-car report card that explains the driving performance of the teenagers and gives parents a way to talk about best driving behaviors and practices to their teens. It was first tested on the company's 2016 Chevy Malibu car model.

"Chevrolet developed this system as a tool that can give teens some additional coaching as they're gaining experience," said Mary Ann Beebe, the safety engineer of Chevy. She also added that for parents, it is easier to give guidance to their teens when they have some information on what their kids are doing behind the wheel.

Based on a report posted in the Detroit Free Press, this is how the feature works; parents can enter the key fob of their children into the system setting of the vehicle and when the vehicle recognizes the fob's activation, the feature will track few driving activities and restrict others. For instance, Teen Driver system will mute automatically the radio as well as other paired devices till the seatbelts are fastened.

Among the many safety features that will be enabled automatically when Teen Driver system is activated are the following: Traction Control, Stability Control, Lane Keep Assist, Front and Rear Park Assist, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and many more.

"And while we can't control a teen's behavior when they are in a car without a parent, Chevrolet's Teen Driver Technology can remind them to buckle up and avoid speeding," said Steve Majoros, the Marketing Director Chevy and Crossovers.
