'The Good Wife' Spinoff Cast News & Update: Carrie Preston Wants Elsbeth Tascioni In; Alan Cumming Not Interested?

"The Good Wife" spinoff development should be moving along, especially if it's aiming to hit its spring 2017 debut on CBS All Access. If the decisions were up to actress Carrie Preston, she would bring back her character, Elsbeth Tascioni, in the spinoff. But one former cast member looks to be uninterested in reprising his role.

Speaking with E! Online, Carrie Preston said she will definitely agree to be in "The Good Wife" spinoff if she gets the call from the producers. She cites Elsbeth Tascioni as the best character she has ever played in her career. "I would take any opportunity to go and bring her back to life again," Preston said.

Elsbeth Tascioni was a recurring guest character on "The Good Wife," who is known for her distinct quirks and oddities. But she is one smart lawyer and has worked both sides of the defense and prosecution teams in the show. She is actually a fan favorite, according to The Daily Beast.

Meanwhile, as Preston expressed willingness to revisit her character on "The Good Wife," it seems co-star Alan Cumming is on the opposite side of the coin. The actor, who plays Eli Gold, a political campaign manager, told Page Six that he actually thought about leaving the show in Season 6. He sensed that it was just the right time.

However, Eli Gold stuck around until the actual end of "The Good Wife." Cumming said it was a good thing he changed his mind. "I'm really glad I stayed on because I think it's been a great season for Eli."

The actor also expressed it is not likely for Eli Gold to get his own spinoff show because the character is better at being the instigator of tension with other characters. "I think in a way it wouldn't be so great for him to have a show completely on his own," he added in the interview.

"The Good Wife" spinoff is set to have between 10-13 episodes in its first offering. The show will be exclusively streaming on CBS All Access subscription service in 2017.
