NBA Trade Rumors: Why Jazz Traded Tibor Pleiss, Waived Kendall Marshall; Wizards To Pursue Marshall?

A few days after speculations that Tibor Pleiss is not going to make it to the final roster of Utah Jazz, news emerged that he has been traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Kendall Marshall. Along with Pleiss, two second-round picks were also sent to the Sixers.

The Utah Jazz has entered into a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers to trade its center Tibor Pleiss, plus two second-round picks and cash considerations. According to NBA.com, the addition of Boris Diaw and Joel Bolomboy have made Pleiss expendable. But SLC Dunk said that the move, which is 100 percent right for the Jazz, is largely due to his salary. The 26-year-old player is on the books for 2016-2017. By trading him to the Sixers, the Jazz has removed $3 million in his salary off the books. Tibor Pleiss, 7-foot-3, was No. 31 pick in the 2010 draft. Last season, he played 12 games as a rookie.

As soon as the trade has been announced, the Utah Jazz immediately waived Kendall Marshall. Marshall's $2 million salary for 2016-2017 would have been guaranteed by Sept. 1, according to NBA.com, citing a report from Spotrac.com. The Philadelphia 76ers traded him to Utah to beat that deadline, since Pleiss' $3 million in salary is non-guaranteed over the next year, giving the Sixers time to trade him before July 2017. Marshall was the No. 13 overall pick in the 2012 draft. He's been with four different teams in four seasons.

Meanwhile, rumors have it that since Kendall Marshall has been waived by the Utah Jazz, the Washington Wizards could pursue him now that he is a free agent. The Wizards is in need of a point guard as John Wall is still recovering from several knee surgeries, and Marshall would be a sensible backup, CSN Mid-Atlantic reported. Will Marshall finally find a long-term home with the Wizards where he briefly had a stint in 2013?
