‘The Warriors’ TV Remake News & Update: Classic 70's Film To Be Directed By The Russo Brothers

After almost 40 years, the 1979 cult classic movie "The Warriors" is set for a modern remake for Paramount TV and Hulu. The Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony, will be in charge of bringing the New York gang classic back to life.

The original "The Warriors" film set in 1979, in the New York underground gang scene, the Big Apple is torn apart by different gangs. When a charismatic leader gathers all of New York's gangs in an attempt to bring the warring gangs together, he is shot dead. One of the gangs, "The Warriors," are wrongly held responsible and are now being hunted by their rivals and the police. Using the underground subway trains, they try to make their way back to their hideout in Coney Island, all the way from the Bronx.

The movie has remained a favorite over the years, as "The Warriors" have left their mark in movie history. One of the iconic rival gangs in the movie, the baseball wielding "Furies," have become somewhat of a trademark for "The Warriors" in pop culture. According to Cinemablend, many real life "gangs" have emerged from New York, in honor of the film, and the members these so-called "gangs" are merely die-hard fans of the original movie.

The Russo Brothers, the duo behind Marvel's "Captain America" movies, are set to direct the upcoming warriors remake. The Russos, have become one of Hollywood's biggest names, after the success of the last two films, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Captain America: Civil War," look to do the original "The Warriors" movie justice.

According to Deadline, the Russo Brothers will look to pay homage to "The Warriors," while adding their own level of grit, sex, pulp, and violence. The Russo Brothers will also team up the Frank Baldwin, the writer of the original 1979 movie.

There is currently not much information regarding "The Warriors" remake in terms of development and release date.
