‘Vikings' Season 4 Air Date, News & Update: Ragnar Lothbrok Not In S5? Creator Michael Hirst Will Give Kattegat Ruler Unconventional Ending?

"Vikings Season 4" midseason has fans guessing on where "Warcraft" star Travis Fimmel will go with the fabled Ragnar Lothbrok. Reports say that Ragnar Lothbrok is not in "Vikings" Season 5, by which fans can anticipate that History series creator Michael Hirst will give Ragnar Lothbrok an unconventional end.

Fans of the "VIkings" series are, by now, familiar with the lack of convention by which Michael Hirst unfolds the story of Ragnar Lothbrok. In fact, Michael Hirst told The Hollywood Reporter that as tempting as turning Ragnar Lothbrok into a classical Viking hero, the "Vikings" series opts to portray the humanity of the Kattegat ruler.

Although tragedy is looming when "Vikings Season 4" continues, Michael Hirst promised that Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons will see ":exotic" locations as midseason resumes. Happily, Rollo (Clive Standen) fans will also see more of the traitorous brother of Ragnar Lothbrok in "Vikings Season 4."

A big question among "Vikings" series fans now is whether or not Ragnar Lothbrok will survive Season 4. The recent "Vikings Season 4" midseason trailer with Northumberland King Aella's snake pit and Ragnar Lothrbok in prison tellingly tease the end for Travis Fimmel's character.

The Stopru reports that Travis Fimmel begins filming "Finding Steve McQueen" in October, which should run in with filming schedule for "Vikings Season 5." At this point, all signs point to Travis Fimmel retiring Ragnar Lothbrok at "Vikings Season 4" and altogether missing S5.

Stretching optimism among "Vikings" series fans, Travis Fimmel might have found the time to begin "Finding Steve McQueen" as Ragnar Lothbrok will now see his sons exploring to conquer countries and worlds in Season 4. Although the old Ragnar Lothbrok would have never been relegated to the sidelines, perhaps the older version would allow this in "Vikings Season 5."

Fans of the History series could opt to take the season a step at a time and believe Michael Hirst when he says the story of Ragnar Lothbrok is nowhere near the end in "Vikings Season 4." "It may be the story of the rise and fall of a hero - it still counts as a fall, I suppose - but some of my best work and Travis' work comes in the next half of the season," Michael Hirst said of the fate of Ragnar Lothbrok.

While the firm date is still pending, History is expected to air the "Vikings Season 4" midseason premiere this fall. Stay tuned for our next update on Ragnar Lothbrok and the "Vikings Season 4" midseason goings-on, including return date.
