"Mistresses" Season 5 seems highly unlikely to happen if one were to base it on the ratings alone. According to Carter Matt, the ratings for Season 4 were far from great even though it was airing prior to other hit ABC shows such as "The Bachelorette" and "Bachelor in Paradise."

"Mistresses" Season 4 has reportedly received an average rating of 0.6 in the 18-49 demographic. This often spells doom for a show since a network usually bases a series' renewal on its performance, which is reflected in the ratings.

There is, however, still a possibility that "Mistresses" Season 4 will be renewed for Season 5. In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Rina Mimoun shared that when they talked about the Season 4 finale with ABC, there was no statement from the network that the finale will be the series ender.

Mimoun, however, said that "Mistresses" Season 5 will most likely serve as the "final fling" for the show. This is the reason they showed a cliffhanger in the "Mistresses" Season 4 finale. The finale showed the departure of one of its main characters, and the introduction of someone who introduced herself as Karen Kim.

The showrunner dispelled rumors and theories that in the possible "Mistresses" Season 5, the new Karen Kim is Lydia. According to the producer, the woman who claims to be Karen Kim will be "prominently featured" in Season 5 should ABC decide to give the show another year.
