‘The Last Guardian’ Release Date, News & Update: PS4 Game Release Date Pushed Back To December 2016

The much anticipated Playstation 4 exclusive game from SIE Japan Studio and genDESIGN called "The Last Guardian," has recently been announced for yet another delay. The Fumito Ueda directed action-adventure/ puzzle platformer is now set back for a December release.

Originally planned for a release on the Playstation 3 in 2011, "The Last Guardian" was already in development after game director Fumito Udea finished his work on his previous video game project, "The Shadow of Colossus," a critically successful video game, which made it to the Greatest Hits list of titles from Sony back in 2006.

The story of "The Last Guardian" revolves around an old man who narrates his story of when he was still a young boy, who one day, was kidnapped, and wakes up in a large expansive castle, with tattoos around his body, which were not there prior to his kidnapping. Escaping captivity, he encounters a giant creature that resembles a half-mammal, half-bird, called Trico. The boy and Trico navigate their way through the great castle, while avoiding or attacking guards that hold them captive.

Udea's development team, Team Ico, announced the release of "The Last Guardian" way back in the 2009 E3, but faced numerous delays due to different internal rifts between Team Ico and Sony, as well as hardware issues, which pushed back the game back further, long enough that it would be now released for the Playstation 4. According to an update on the Playstation Blog, Udea and the development team have held the game back for even more time, due to them wanting to deliver "the most polished experience" for their ever-supportive fans.

Although plenty of in-game footage of "The Last Guardian" has been released as promotional teasers, Team Ico has not yet revealed much of the game's plot, due to the game focusing heavy on the storyline, according to Game Spot. With Fumito Ueda at the helm, who is known for his emotionally heavy story-telling, fans can bet that they will be teary-eyed at the very least, once they have finished the game.

"The Last Guardians" will now be released on December 6, 2016.
