'Designated Survivor' Season 1 Spoilers & News: Kiefer Sutherland's Tom Kirkman Learns Who Bombed Capitol, Meets Another Designated Survivor

Kiefer Sutherland as President Tom Kirkman is having a tough first day as the United States leader and Commander-In-Chief on "Designated Survivor." The upcoming episode, which airs Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 10 p.m. on ABC, will give the new president little time to adjust, as the government has to determine who really is responsible for the bombing of the Capitol.

"Designated Survivor" Season 1 Episode 2 is called "First Day," and it will see President Tom Kirkman (Sutherland) discussing with military leaders in the war room regarding the next plan of attack. He wants to find out who is behind the bombing as the FBI team on the ground, headed by Hannah Wells (Maggie Q), is doing their best to find some clues.

E! Online reports that the team has knowledge of terrorist groups that could be behind the attack on "Designated Survivor" based on the bomb residues. However, the FBI believes the probability is only about 75 percent. Without certainty, it's hard for President Tom Kirkman to plan the country's next moves.

Meanwhile, "Designated Survivor" is introducing Congresswoman Kimble Hookstraten (Virginia Madsen) in the upcoming episode. She is the other designated survivor from the Republican Party, while Tom Kirkman is from the Democrats, the ruling administration.

However, it's unclear if Congresswoman Hookstraten will be one of President Kirkman's strongest critics or will eventually sympathize with the leader, given their situation. "She is there to voice that party's point of view," Kiefer Sutherland said via TV Line. "No one person can ever solely be in power in the United States, and that's why they have this," the actor added.

The actor also revealed that he knows about a designated survivor as it is actually written in the U.S. constitution. "But I didn't know that there's a representative from each party," the actor said. "So in our scenario, the Republicans have a designated survivor in case something happens to me."

How will President Tom Kirkman's first day turn out? Find out when "Designated Survivor" airs its second episode Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 10 p.m. on ABC. Check out the teaser below.
