Dad Advice: Tips For New Dads In Their First Year Of Parenting

Some parents from the United Kingdom admitted that parenthood is overwhelming especially during the first year. According to a research, not only mothers experience hurdles during the first year of parenting but fathers as well. To help new dads deal with those struggles, here are some effective tips.

The research, led by famous toy company Little Tikes, questioned 1, 500 United Kingdom parents who are in their first year of being mom and dad. The researchers discovered that the hardest part of being a mother or father is endless cleaning up followed closely by bed-time concerns such as the combat of putting the baby to sleep and sleepless nights.

Furthermore, the Mirror reports the research results, with parents saying they spent so many hours or exactly 2,263 hours just holding their babies during the first year and that is 6.5 hours for each day. About 73 percent or three-quarters of the parents said that in the first year of parenting they were pressured to become a "perfect" parent by their family and friends.

At first it may be found that mommy manages most of the nurturing, calming and feeding. Daddies can be assigned to providing food, making tea and changing the diapers. However, it's a good idea, according to NCT, from early on as a new father to try your hands in everything.

Limit workload. Although work might be essential, now isn't the perfect time to do overtime or aim for a promotion. Focus on productivity and delegate responsibilities to keep workload predictable and steady for the upcoming months. You and your wife require some time to fine-tune.

Participate in baby care. Newborn babies appear so fragile and small that you might feel uncomfortable and just let your wife manage things. However, you should dive in as the sole way to become comfortable in rocking the newborn to sleep, changing nappies, and bathing is to perform it. If you don't participate in raking care of your baby from the very beginning, you will lose a significant opportunity to bond with your child.

Ask help. If both of you and your partner are feeling overwhelmed then it's time to ask for help from family or friends to babysit even for a while.
