NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics Interested To Sign J.R. Smith? Will Cavs Offer A Higher Deal?

For those following the NBA trade buzz this season, reports are rife that Cleveland Cavaliers are working their way to re-sign J.R. Smith. Everyone who follows Cavs knows about Smith's huge contribution to Cavs' first NBA title and would agree that maintaining Smith would be an advantage for the team.

Recent reports suggest that Cleveland Cavaliers have already offered a competitive deal to J.R. Smith and that the team is only waiting for Smith to ink the deal. Some sources claim that the delay was due to Smith's demand for a higher pay.

Initially, Cleveland Cavaliers offer a $10 million deal to J.R. Smith but the player demands a $15 million annual salary. Cavs are reluctant to comply because there are no other teams in the NBA league bidding for the free agent player.

However, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, there are actually a number of teams who are interested in adding J.R. Smith on their roster and one of them is Boston Celtics. Could this prompt Cleveland Cavaliers in increasing their offer to J.R. Smith?

However, if Boston Celtics would push for a deal with J.R. Smith, the team needs to free additional salary caps to acquire the veteran shooting guard who is demanding a $15 million deal. At the time, Boston has approximately $9 million, which is not even close to Cavs offer to Smith.

Cleveland Cavaliers have updated their offer to J.R. Smith. Reports have it that it is now between $10 million and $11 million. Although Cavs didn't actually give in to Smith's demands many believe that Smith will eventually sign the deal.

LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson want J.R. Smith to return to Cleveland Cavaliers. In fact, reports have it that James is already pressuring Cavs to re-sign Smith.

J.R. Smith was last spotted with his former Cavs running mates, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye at the Indians playoff games. This makes NBA fans think that Smith misses his teammates and will eventually reunite with them by signing the deal with Cleveland Cavaliers.
