According the Marvel "Doctor Strange" updates, Tilda Swinton's casting as "The Ancient One" in the upcoming Marvel film, "Doctor Strange" has caused quite a ruckus as the fans of the comics, "The Ancient One", have claimed that there has been some form of whitewashing.

Marvel "Doctor Strange" updates have shown that fans feel that it was inappropriate to cast Tilda Swinton, being British, as the comics, "The Ancient One", showcases the Tibetan race.

In film lingo, whitewashing is the term used when a non-white character is played by a Caucasian (white) person. With the public being color-sensitive, this issue has been an issue in the film industry for many years. Because of that, most producers and directors practice color-blind casting emerged which is essentially the complete opposite of whitewashing.

Latest Marvel "Doctor Strange" updates share that Swinton said in an interview that she was surprised at the backlash of her casting because when the first trailer came out. According to the interview reported on South China Morning Post, Swimton mentioned that there were no issues of whitewashing or any kind of discrimination.

For the record, "The Ancient One" was not originally slated to be a woman.

Because of the latest Marvel "Doctor Strange" updates, Marvel had opted to release a statement that explains the so-called whitewashing. The company says that it has a very strong record of diversity in its casting of films.

The premise of the film "Doctor Strange" is about a doctor who lost his hands in an accident. With this, he had to visit "The Ancient One" to further train his abilities and heal himself. And this is where his journey towards becoming the next big Superhero starts.
