Superman's Daughter Alexandra Reeve & Garren Givens Welcome First Child, Boy Named After Late Grandpa Christopher

Superman's daughter is finally a mom. Alexandra Reeve delivered a bouncing baby boy weighing 8 lbs. and 3 oz. on June 13 in Washington, D.C. Alexandra and her husband, Garren Givens, were overjoyed with the arrival of the new family member.

The newborn was named Christopher Russel Reeve Givens, which was taken from his grandfathers from both parents. As confirmed by a family representative to People, "He was named after his grandfathers on each side, two very important role models for Garren and Alexandra. The couple both honored their father by doing so.

Alexandra Reeve is Christopher Reeve's second child to his ex-lover, Gae Exton, Us Weekly reports. The ex-lovers were also parents to son Matthew born in 1979. The "Superman" actor married Dana Morosini and had his third child, son William, 23.

Alexandra's late father rose to fame after portraying Superman for four occasions. He suffered a severe spinal injury from a horse riding accident that shattered his first and second vertebrae while shooting the 1994 film, "Village of the Damned."

The actor later became a staunch advocate of stem cell research into spinal injury following his accident, Mail Online has learned. His dedicated activism led to the development of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

The youngest member of the family has already showed his support for his grandfather's foundation by wearing a Team Reeve in training T-shirt.

The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation shared their heartwarming congratulations to the new parents in Twitter, "Congrats to Alexandra Reeve Givens on the birth of her son Christopher Russel! He is already rocking #TeamReeve gear," the foundation tweeted.

The foundation has just announced a massive breakthrough in the treatment of spinal cord injuries. In another report from People, Mattew showed a video of four young men paralyzed by spinal cord injuries, who were told that they were doomed to be paralyzed below their neck or chest. However, they were now able to stand and move their hips and legs and toes with the help of the new therapy called epidural stimulation.

On the day of the announcement of the foundation's breakthrough, Matthew couldn't help but wish that his famous Superman dad was with them, "It's hard not to think, 'What if he was here and what if he was present for this breakthrough?'" He added, "It's a huge honor to continue the work he started."

The 34-year-old writer and director revealed what their superhero dad dreamed about for his advocacy, "My father dreamed of a world with empty wheelchairs and gave hope to a whole community. This is a key new step in that hope becoming realized."

Apart from being a mom, Alexandra, 31, serves as a senior counsel in the United State Senate and a professor at Columbia Law School, her alma mater. On the other hand, Garren, 33, is the director of the Presidential Innovation Fellows program under the Obama administration.

The couple met while studying at Yale University and got married in 2008. Christopher Russel is the couple's first born after seven years of marriage.
