MTV's "Scream" has been renewed for a third season. But "Scream" fans might be disappointed to know that season 3 will only be consisting of six episodes. Could this be the last "Scream" season? And what other changes should the fans expect?

Aside from being renewed for season 3 with only six episodes, Variety learned that the "Scream" season 2 showrunners will not be joining the horror-slasher television show for the next season. Showrunners Michael Gans and Richard Register are leaving "Scream" for season 3 after taking over the position from original showrunners Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia.

However, there is still no word on who will be the new showrunners for "Scream" season 3 and if whether this is would be the last season for the show. Viewers would just have to wait and hope that the new showrunners bring exciting new developments on "Scream" season 3.

"Scream", which is based from the same-name horror-slasher film franchise from Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, is a television series centered on Emma Duval and the fictional town of Lakewood. After a cyberbullying incident became a trigger to a vicious murder, Emma and her friends find themselves as the primary targets of a serial killer. With Emma being the killer's main obsession, she must hunt for the truth about the town's dark past and her connection to it and figure out who the serial killer before she and her friends end up dead.

According to TV Line, "Scream" season 3 is set to premiere on 2017. No announcements have been made yet for the casting, location or production start date. In any case, fans should have just gotten their dose of horror with the 2-hour Halloween special episode of "Scream", which aired Tuesday, October 18.
