"Avatar 2" will be one of the four sequels of "Avatar", James Cameron says to the eager fans present at this year's ComicCon. The plot of the "Avatar" sequels can stand on their own but are still within the narrative of the first film.

Although still set in Pandora, "Avatar 2" will not only feature the forests but also the water systems of the "Avatar" universe. It will also feature more about Polyphemus and its moons.

According to an interview with EmpireOnline, underwater motion capturing systems are in development. James Cameron expressed his desire to use footage captured in the Marianas Trench using the developed technology.

The story of "Avatar 2" will continue years after the humans were evicted from Pandora. "Avatar 2" will explore more about the Na'vi culture and how the tribe has been after the events in "Avatar". James Cameron talked to Variety about how "Avatar 2" will focus on Jake Sully and Neytiri's growing family.

Most of the characters in "Avatar" will likely appear in "Avatar 2" as James Cameron stated in 2011. In a 2015 interview, Jon Landau said that humans will be returning to Pandora. The struggles faced by the humans and the Na'vi tribe will continue in "Avatar 2".

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, actors who played the titular characters of Jake Sully and Neytiri in "Avatar" has signed to do all three "Avatar" sequels. Actor Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quarich in "Avatar", is also set to return.

Although her character in "Avatar" died, in the 2010 Golden Globes, Sigourney Weaver has confirmed that she will be in "Avatar 2". CCH Pounder will also reprise her role as Omaticaya Tsahik Mo'at in "Avatar 2". The production of "Avatar 2" started this April at New Zealand. All of the sequels will be simultaneously filmed and will be released on December 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023, respectively.
