'Legion' Air Date, Teaser & News: 'X-Men' Spinoff Unleashes Most Powerful Mutant, FX Confirms Premiere Date [VIDEOS]

The "X-men" spinoff series "Legion" has gotten a premiere date on the cable channel FX. The network also released a new teaser that features actor Dan Stevens as the most powerful mutant ever. His character happens to be Professor Xavier's son.

"Legion" is going to begin its run on FX in February 2017. With only eight episodes to the first season, the show is expected to be a highly stylized series. The "X-men" spinoff about David Haller (Stevens), Professor Xavier's son, is also expected to have a shared universe with the "X-men" movie franchise.

Based off the comic book series from Marvel, "Legion" is about schizophrenic who has lived in psychiatric hospitals for years. The legion in "Legion" refers to the different voices he hears in his head.

However, doctors and experts eventually discover that David Haller could be the most powerful mutant to exist. David also realizes that his "sickness" might be a superpower after a patient informs him of the possibility that the voices are not just in his head, Coming Soon reports.

"Legion" is created by Noah Hawley for television but "X-men" director and "Legion" producer Bryan Singer has confirmed that the show can exist in the same world as the movies. "But when you watched it, you wouldn't have to label it, it could exist completely on its own," Singer said, according to Looper. Parent Herald previously reported that there could a possibility for Professor Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart in the movies, to appear in the TV show eventually.

"Legion" also stars Aubrey Plaza ("Parks and Recreation"), Rachel Keller ("Fargo"), Katie Aselton ("The League"), Jean Smart ("Fargo"), Jemaine Clement ("Flight of the Conchords"), Amber Midthunder ("Hell or High Water"), Jeremie Harris ("A Walk Among the Tombstones") and Bill Irwin ("Interstellar").
