Chicago Bears Latest News: Franchise Quarterback Jay Cutler’s Era In Chicago Is Over; Hoyer Is The New Quarterback For The Bears

Jay Christopher Cutler is Chicago Bears' franchise quarterback for the past eight years. He owns a record of 67-69 in 11 seasons, completed 62 percent of his passes and 205 touchdowns to 143 interceptions. However, this is far from what a national football league would want from their quarterbacks. This makes his play unspectacular, mediocre, and even bad at times for the past eight years. He may not be the only reason for the losses of Chicago Bears, but he has delivered numerous bad plays for the past eight years. Apart from his unspectacular performance, Fox Sports reported that Cutler has been opposing with stand-off and emotionless attitude, which most stars in the football arena won't take. With these, will Jay Cutler be really cut off as a quarterback for Chicago Bears?

According to Fox Sports, Cutler stayed on the bench due to a thumb injury in the second game of the NFL season. This paved the way for Brian Hoyer, a new quarterback for Chicago Bears. Hoyer recently signed a contract this offseason. In the game, he played well and has been so solid despite him being new. In fact, he has set a franchise record for the most consecutive 300-yard games and reached the mark four times in a row compared to Cutler's twice back-to-back 300-yard games in eight years. This gives Bears a little reason to go back to Cutler when he's fully recovered. Will Hoyer be Jay Cutler's for the Chicago Bears?

Hoyer's first play does not mean that he is totally better than Cutler. In fact, in his 189 pass attempts, he has not given an interception. However, Bears' offense is better and more efficient with Hoyer as the starter. However, Cutler has a contract with the Bears through 2020.

CBS Sports said, "The guaranteed money in Cutler's contract is the primary reason he remained in Chicago when head coach John fox and general manager Ryan Pace took over in 2015." Cutler has an average cap hit of $18.7 million which will rise in the following years. Ending Cutler's era next season would result in a $19 million penalty. Hence, Chicago Bears can only trade with teams who are need of a quarterback. Even if Cutler comes back and miraculously delivers a much better play, this cannot cover the lost opportunities and disappointments in the past eight years.

With Cutler out of the picture, Chicago Bears is moving on to a new era of quarterbacking with top quarterbacks such as Brian Hoyer. It is about time for the end of Jay Cutler's era in Chicago
