Cody McKenzie UFC Vet Working In Marijuana Factory: Fights For Money Now, Shifted Priorities Due To Girlfriend

Cody McKenzie, a UFC vet, has a record of 16 wins by 1 knockout, 14 by submission, and 1 by decision. Of course, he is not untouchable for he garnered 9 losses: 2 by knockout, 4 by submission, 2 by decision, and 1 by disqualification. With a total of 25 in his MMA record, he announced his retirement on Dec. 18, 2014.

But 2 months after his supposed retirement, news came out that the UFC vet McKenzie would face off Andrew McInnes at WSOF 18. According to sources, he signed a deal with World Series of Fighting (WSOF) post-retirement.

Unfortunately, UFC vet McKenzie lost the fight via disqualification, after illegally headbutting McInnes, who was unable to continue the game.

But ever wonder what the Ultimate Fighter alumnus is up to nowadays, well it’s not what you would expect (but not far from it). Since the 28-year-old UFC vet’s ugly knockout loss two years ago, Cody McKenzie promptly shifted his priorities. Taking fights just to stay busy is not his style anymore.

Cody is currently living in the Seattle area while working in a marijuana production facility. He works at Hang Roots, a warehouse owned by his girlfriend’s cousin that produces the plant in Washington State’s legal marijuana market.

However, Cody McKenzie’s retirement from fighting in the UFC arena didn’t last though as he still fights, but this time he does it for money.

“I’m not trying to be world champion. I’m just trying to make money in the game.” This is what Cody McKenzie told MMAjunkie Radio in a recent interview.

UFC vet McKenzie also added that he has a girl that feeds him. Because of this in addition to a stable job, McKenzie’s days of fighting as a featherweight are long gone since 45 pounds has been added to his once 145 pound frame.

When he fights UFC vet Joe Riggs (41-7) on Oct. 28 in a “Fight Night 2” card in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, McKenzie will do it at a 180-pound catch weight.
