'Dancing with the Stars' Season 23, Week 7 Recap: Laurie Hernandez Safe From Elimination; Who's Out?

"Dancing with the Stars" season 3 has just finished its "Eras Nights." This week, the couples dance iconic dances throughout the history. And since it's week 7, the distinction between who has a chance to get the mirrorball and who doesn't becomes quite clear.

During week 7 of "Dancing with the Stars," fan favorite Laurie Hernandez with pro Val Chmerkovskiy gave an "amazing" performance. The couple danced a quickstep routine to "One Fine Day" by The Chiffons.

Quickstep is by far among the hardest dances of "Dancing with the Stars." It requires grace and finesse while gliding through the dancefloor in quick succession of step all the while feeling the happy tune. For a non-dancer though, Laurie Hernandez did a great job and was commended for it.

The judges were happy and amazed at her performance. It was yet a successful round after Latin Night which bounced her back to the top after a disappointing "Dancing with the Stars" week 5 performance.

The "Dancing with the Stars" judges were wowed. Judge Bruno Tonioli said that the Olympic star lit up the room with her dancing. Len Goodman, on the other hand, thought the couple rushed the dance. However, he still thought it was a good job according to Gossip Cop.

Their "Dancing with the Stars" week 7 dance earned them a score of 34 out of 40, landing them in between.

Although Laurie Hernandez's dance for the night has a good result, fellow Olympian Ryan Lochte did not fare well.

Ryan Lochte joined "Dancing with the Stars" and was partnered with pro Cheryl Burke. Burke had rested for a few seasons of "Dancing with the Stars" but is back now. Nonetheless, even when Ryan Lochte got as far as week 7, his performance was not the best.

Ryan Lochte and "DWTS" pro Cheryl Burke danced a 1990's rumba to the tune of Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing." However, the results were not as great and they ended on the bottom of the leaderboard with a 28 out of 40 points according to TVLine.

Still, both Olympians have made it safe to week 8. Unfortunately, Maureen McCormick and "DWTS" pro Artem Chigvintsev were eliminated. They were in the bottom together with Jana Kramer and "DWTS" pro Gleb Savchenko.

Meanwhile, the best scores of the night went to couples James Hinchcliffe and "DWTS" pro Sharna Burgess as well as Calvin Johnson and "DWTS" pro Lindsay Arnold. Both couples got 36 points out of 40.

James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess danced a 1940's Jitterburg while Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold danced a 1950's jive for week 7 of "Dancing with the Stars."
