‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Third Year: Still Beating The Competition With Over 10 Million Copies Sold This Year

"GTA V" better known as "Grand Theft Auto V" is the latest installment of Rockstar games' "Grand Theft Auto Series." Three years after its release, the game is still at the height of its success, outselling almost every video game released this year across all platforms.

"Grand Theft Auto V" is boasting more than 10 million units sold, based on PVPLIVE's recent article, and has beaten almost every video game released this year. The game was destined to become a best-seller, reaching $1 billion in sales for just three days from the initial launch, as reported by IGN.

A game with those sales figures is sure to receive an acknowledgment and a place in the prestigious Guinness Book of World Records. "GTA V" broke not one but a total of seven world records previously held by Activision's "Call of Duty" series. The game achieved recognitions as the best-selling action adventure game in 24 hours, the best-selling video game in 24 hours, fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion, fastest video game to gross $1 billion, the highest grossing video game in 24 hours, and the most viewed trailer for an action-adventure game. The game with this magnitude also received some of the video games critics greatest review scores, with IGN giving it a 10/10 rating, which translates to Masterpiece in all platforms.

"Grand Theft Auto" also had its share of controversies specifically with the game's depiction of women. Target department stores banned the game from their 300 stores because of a petition by Change.org backed up with 40,000 signatures.

"Grand Theft Auto V" deserves all the awards and success received since its release. Although the game has a violence written all over it, people should never forget that man is violent in nature. Video games create a way for an individual to channel that violence but still needs proper guidance and supervision. Bruce Willis, an entertainment icon, once said: "Violence - look, we live in a violent world, man. This country was founded on violence. Who's kidding who?"
