"Penny Dreadful" spinoff may still happen following its Season 3 cancellation on Showtime. As most fans can recall, the Eva Green-led series surprised a lot of fans and viewers after flashing the words "The End" in the season 3 finale.

Many were caught off guard, as the network never announced that "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 will be the series finale. Series creator John Logan explained that the show had to end with Vanessa Ives' (Eva Green) death.

However, many fans expressed that "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 can still continue and focus on other characters instead. Even Showtime president David Nevins tried to convince Logan to let the story move on for more years, reports Digital Spy.

Nevins previously teased that a "Penny Dreadful" spinoff may be in the works sometime in the future. This means that the show's other characters may be the focus of the spinoff series.

Billie Piper may be one of the returning "Penny Dreadful" cast members should the spinoff happen. Just Jared also reports on Josh Hartnett's recent expression of interest to reprise his role in the Showtime drama.

"Otherwise I'd say come back," he said. "I think everybody loved making it."

Piper previously expressed disappointment over the show's sudden ending. According to the actress, the "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 finale was "pretty upsetting" because it went off the air without giving enough time to process the end of the show.
