New Jersey Fatal Stabbings Update: Man Being Sought As Person Of Interest Located, Two Children And A Woman Left Dead

Two children and a woman were left dead after being fatally stabbed at a Newark, New Jersey home. Authorities have located the possible suspect behind the killings after hours of searching.

The man believed to be the person of interest is said to be already wanted on assault charges last month. He was being sought on Sunday as the person of interest in the latest killings at the Newark home and was arrested hours after.

The suspect reportedly barricaded himself at a home in Aldine Street near Pomona Avenue. Eventually, he surrendered after 30 minutes of negotiating with authorities.

The man was identified by police as 26-year-old Jeremy Arrington, Fox News reported. The knife attack that killed the two children and a woman reportedly took place on Saturday afternoon. Aside from the three dead victims, three more people were injured, acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said.

The charges against Arrington were made on October. He was wanted on charges of sexual assault and aggravated assault. Meanwhile, he has not been charged in the stabbings at the Newark home yet, Daily Mail reported and the motive has not been released yet.

Two of the three people killed were identified as eight-year-old Aerial Little Whitehurst and 11-year-old Al-Jahon Whitehurst. The two kids were still taken to a hospital but were pronounced dead later. The two children were said to be related but it was not stated what their relationship is to the woman or if they personally know Arrington.

The three people injured were not revealed but are said to be a 29-year-old woman, a 13-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. It was not clear if these two children are also related to the two other children killed in the stabbings. The injured victims remained in a hospital.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka called the stabbings one of the most tragic and savage crimes he has seen. He pleaded hours before the person of interest was located that anyone who knows about the killings should come forward.

"We have to get him immediately before he hurts someone else. As long as he's on the street, nobody is safe," Baraka added. Meanwhile, police officials have offered a $20,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest.
