‘Wayward Pines’ Season 3 Updates: Fox Says Cancellation Rumors NOT True, Upcoming Season Is Already Set

The psychological, mind-bending thriller "Wayward Pines" season 2 ended four months ago. And while fans are patiently waiting for the third season, rumors emerging that it cannot stand against the psychological thriller Netflix "Stranger Things." Fox confirmed that "Wayward Pines" Season 3 cancellation rumors are not true.

Movie News Guide reported that the reason behind the third installment's delay is the show's low viewership ranking. And since the show's fate will largely depend on the ratings, the low viewership of the season 2 threatens to risk the third season's renewal.

International Business Times have reported the rating comparison of the "Wayward Pines" Season 1 that garnered over 3.8 million viewers. While the second season only settled to 2.4 million. Nonetheless, the season 2 regained with the DVR ratings which helped increased the rate to 3.5 million.

Fans are waiting to find out if the human race will end up in scientifically induced slumber. And this is more likely the encouragement that Fox is holding on to for pursuing the third season. Fox CEO Dana Walden told the press during Television Critics Association summer press tour that they are thorough with the season 3 plot.

Meanwhile, the human evolution, whether or not the Abbies will take control over humanity is still the show's primary theme. In the same report, Walden admitted that the creative team is struggling to find its footing without the books to guide the season 3. This was the same case with season 2 despite draw inspiration from the show's first season.

Blake Crouch stated that the story is intended that humans will face its final hours of extinction. Although this is yet just a statement, the storyline is pretty much open for changes, which what will make the Abbies versus Humans battle in the season 3.

The production of "Wayward Pines" Season 3  has not yet added any disclosures at this time.
