‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Spoilers: Lorelai’s ‘Midlife Crisis’ & New Romance Teased; Impact Of Richard’s Death

The last time "Gilmore Girls" went on air, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) is rekindling her relationship with Luke (Scott Patterson) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) is pursuing a career in journalism. Now, eight years have passed for the mother-daughter duo and when the show's revival airs this month, both Lorelai and Alexis have experienced plenty of changes.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bledel said that Rory feels a "rude awakening" after working in the field of journalism for eight years. The actress said that on the four-part "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" revival, Rory is "chasing stories wherever she can" and visiting various cities while doing that. Despite Rory's busy life and quarter-life crisis, she makes time to return to Stars Hollow to attend her grandfather Richard's (portrayed by the late Edward Herrmann) funeral.

Graham, meanwhile, told EW that her character is in a "midlife crisis" on "Gilmore Girls" revival. Lorelai's mother Emily (Kelly Bishop) is now a widow and is having a hard time dealing with a life without Richard in it. Basically, all three Gilmore women's lives are not in a good place and Richard's death will impact them in a huge way and affect the "Gilmore Girls" revival's themes as well.

Graham said that Richard's death on the "Gilmore Girls" revival "raises a question" for Emily, Lorelai, and Rory. According to Bustle, Richard's funeral would likely take place in the revival's first episode titled "Winter." However, promotional photos of Lorelai, Rory, and Emily visiting Richard's grave was labeled "Summer," so it's likely that the three Gilmore women would visit the grave every season.

In "Gilmore Girls" revival's second episode, "Spring," Lorelai and Rory will have a surprising run-in with Michael Ausiello's Guy Eating Salad in Stairwell No. 2 character. This encounter will ignite sparks between Lorelai and Ausiello's character and Rory will be aware of that, according to TVLine.

The "Gilmore Girls" revival will also showcase Lorelai and the comedic chef Sookie's (Melissa McCarthy) adorable friendship. McCarthy confirmed her return to the dramedy show in March, People reported.

Though there are changes for the characters, there are notable changes in there as well. Bledel told Entertainment Tonight that the "Gilmore Girls" revival characters "got the same dynamics, the same relationships" and they're still the "same people, but they've evolved quite a bit and there are new things to play with in the scenes."

All four episodes of "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" will air on Netflix on Friday, Nov. 25. Watch the trailer below.
