‘The Crown’ Season 1 Episode 7 Steamy Scene: How Do Queen Elizabeth And The British Monarchy React To It?

The Netflix original series,“The Crown” aired a steamy explicit scene between Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Will the real-life British monarchs be offended by their depiction? How did the Buckingham Palace react?

"The Crown" Season 1 Episode 7 showed Queen Elizabeth, played in the show by Claire Foy, in a rather new and different light. According to Yahoo! News UK, the sex scene was said to be so controversial and steamy that is unbecoming of a queen. Did the news of the scene reach the real-life Queen Elizabeth II? How did she react?

Surprisingly, the Royal Palace has been mum about the said scene. However, we know that a representative from the Royal Household has previously stated that “The Crown” is a “fictional drama” and it is not related by any means to the British monarchs, although commenting that the show can also draw inspiration from real life events, Bustle reports.

Meanwhile, the writer of "The Crown," Peter Morgan, has also stated that he deals with the theme and the story with respect. Morgan added that he doesn’t want to be “affiliated in any way with the palace” but also understands that they might want to have a little control on the show.

Now, many fans are wondering if the British monarchy will intervene with Netflix's airing of "The Crown" once the news of Episode 7's controversial scene reaches the Palace. But Morgan and the show's producers seem to be unperturbed. As Times put it, they have turned “recent history into… plenty of drama” that best suits television. Yes, it’s fictionalized, and though it holds some truth, the Royal Household can still appreciate how the story has amassed plenty of fans in its pilot season.

Meanwhile, fan comments on "The Crown" and how it represents Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip (Matt Smith) have been positive. Particularly, Episode 7 was not a shock to them, and some fans even added that the steamy scenes in the show are normal as the couple have four children and are still together up to today.
