‘The Big Bang Theory’ News & Updates: Spinoff About Young Sheldon Cooper Gets CBS Green Light

"The Big Bang Theory" universe just got larger, as CBS is reportedly planning a spin-off for their hit sitcom. Although still in its early stage, the show is said to be a prequel to the original series, and fans will be excited to know that it will focus on the young Sheldon Cooper.

Jim Parsons, who plays as Sheldon Cooper in "The Big Bang Theory," will also serve as one of the executive producers. He's producing the show along with Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Bill Prady. Molaro is said to be also writing the script of the spinoff.

According to Variety, it will show Sheldon's childhood, growing up in Texas as a "neurotic genius." Fans of "The Big Bang Theory" have definitely heard allusions about Sheldon's past, but haven't really seen any flashback scenes in the original sitcom.

Now, to let the fans in the character's world, the spinoff will also focus on his family, particularly his parents. Will fans expect a little drama in the spinoff?

Aside from signature "Big Bang" comedy, the prequel might also provide a little drama for its fans. It will touch on Sheldon's family, and one of the most anticipated heartbreaking scenes is when Sheldon wakes up for Christmas and doesn't see his Pop-Pop. And that's why he hates Christmas, as explained in a previous episode in "The Big Bang Theory" back in Season 2.

Meanwhile, some fans also want other characters to be part of the spinoff, and even suggest a whole new show for Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and husband Howard (Simon Helberg). A spinoff of the Wolowitz, why not?

"The Big Bang Theory" is today's highest rating sitcom and is now on its Season 10. The main characters of the show are included in the list of highest-paid actors in Hollywood. Parsons and co-stars Kaley Cuoco and John Galecki are reportedly paid $1 million for every episode, according to BBC.

"The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 airs every Thursday on CBS.
