Final Fantasy VII Remake’ News: Game Will Come With New Battle System; Should Fans Be Worried?

The PlayStation Experience 2015 showcased the "Final Fantasy VII Remake" during its keynote presentation. The new updated details spoke of a new battle system, which will replace the previous active time battle (ATB) system of the original "Final Fantasy" game.

"Final Fantasy VII" for the PlayStation 1 made the "Final Fantasy" title into a household name. The game was released by Square on Jan. 31, 1997, which was presented in a three-disc format and the very first of the series to utilize the 3D computer graphics. The game was even ported to PC and smartphones.

The battle system for "Final Fantasy VII" utilized the ATB, which was introduced in "Final Fantasy IV." Active Time Battle or ATB is a type of battle system that utilizes an ATB meter, which gradually fills in real-time. Once the meter is filled, the player can execute any available command for a specific character.

ATB also adds urgency and thrill to the game since the opponent can attack anytime. The ATB became the standard battle system for the series up to "Final Fantasy X-2."

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" will be released in a three full-scale game format. The game will retain the storyline. However, the storytelling will depend on a different perspective. It was also confirmed by the game's director Tetsuya Nomura that the "Final Fantasy VII" ATB battle system will be replaced even though numerous fans wanted to have the system ported into the remake.

The battle system of the game "Dissidia" is the unlikely candidate for the new system. Nomura also stated that there is going to be a special feature specially made for the fans who are not used to the new battle system, according to an article by Siliconera on October 12, 2016.

After a year since "Final Fantasy VII Remake" hyped the audience during the 2015 PlayStation Experience, it's good to know that one of the most epic chapters of Square-Enix's "Final Fantasy" series will be told and played thru the new generation of consoles.
