"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Episode 4, "An Eternity Of Misery" had dire tidings for the awaited team up of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder.

As TV Guide recaps, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Episode 4 had been a smorgasbord of set ups, which hint at future tidings for Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. Damon Salvatore remains under the power of ancient siren Sybil (Nathalie Kelly), whose sister Seline (Kristen Gutoskie) eliminated Georgie (Allison Scagliotti) and caused Alaric's (Matthew Davis) assistant to exit like Katherine Pierce.

TV Guide proposes that hell is the theme of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 and the exit of Seline may hint at how Nina Dobrev will return as Katherine Pierce. Certainly, a return by Nina Dobrev as Katherine Pierce will serve complications for Damon Salvatore.

If indeed Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder deliver a Katherine Pierce return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, the ancestor of Elena Gilbert may use the second chance to either help or destroy Damon Salvatore. As TV Guide reminds in a separate story, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder may still get that happy reunion with Elena Gilbert if Damon Salvatore succeeds in finding the cure and turning human once more.

Katherine Pierce may help Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore after her stint in hell and eventually earn an afterlife of peace. Or Katherine Pierce may be a vengeful catalyst that allows Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder to somehow bring a life of bliss to Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore.

From a conversation with executive producer Julie Plec, Digital Spy cautions that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder reuniting Damon Salvatore either with Elena Gilbert or Katherine Pierce is not a foregone conclusion. At the moment Nina Dobrev still has to clear her schedule to be able to work with Ian Somerhalder on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale.
