Are ‘Smart Glasses’ Apple's Next Big Project? CEO Tim Cook Says Augmented Reality One Of Apple's ‘Area Of Focus’

What's next for Apple? So far, the company has left an indelible mark in our digital lives. From the iPhone to the iPad to the Mac and MacBook, Cupertino seems to have something to offer to make communication, entertainment and work better and easier. Now, Apple is taking the next big step: Smart Wearable.

One source familiar with the matter reported that Apple is mulling on developing a pair of Smart glasses. Insiders say that the project, although it is still in its "exploration phase", will connect to any Apple iPhone wirelessly and should display several information on the user's field of vision. These include notifications, distance, images, and even "use augmented reality".

The website added that Apple has reached out to several "potential suppliers" about their new Smart Wearable that will augment the Apple Watch in the future. Further, it's been said that Apple has already ordered a few "near-eye displays" from one of its suppliers for testing. This, however, is not a sign that Apple is already thinking of mass-producing the Smart glasses soon.

In a July earnings call, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook considered Augmented Reality, or AR, to be one of Apple's "area of focus". After one audience detailed the success of AR-based game Pokemon Go, Cook said that they are "high on AR", and that they have been and will continue to take interest and invest on the technology. He added that they are making sure their products "work well" with developers - a sight evident in players using iPhones while "chasing pokey mans."

Apple needs to be ready to take the plunge and take head on the consequences of their Smart Glasses project. For now, it's a dark horse with a potential to boom over everyone. Still, it also comes with a self-contained bomb ready to explode in front of Apple's face. But then again, Apple and its fans are taking the news with a grain of salt: there will be questions at first, but answers will be found in the long run.
