Parenting After the Elections: What to Say to the Kids?

With all the fuss and the ruckus about the recent elections, being a parent can be hard especially when the children are exposed to such news. In the digital age, little kids already have more access to news outlets that are beyond newspapers, and given the hype that the election had brought upon, parents will need some answers for their kids and the right message given the election results.

Last November 9, 2016, the United States of America just elected the 45th President of the United States as the Electoral College system just voted in Donald Trump for that position. Time reports that this trump victory has been the upset of the year even surpassing the Brexit vote as no major predictors foresaw as they all pitched Democratic representative Hillary Clinton as the next president of the nation.

Media outlets, including social media, have already spread various information about the two candidates - most notably President-elect Donald Trump. It is no secret that kids have already painted Trump with his sexist and derogatory remarks, and it is understandable that most kids would be afraid especially how a "bully" is already on power.

Huffington Post published an article about a mother whose daughter has been afraid ever since Trump won the presidency. Parents now have a greater role to fulfill especially in educating their little kids and the not so little kids about what is right or wrong.

With all that is said and done, parents should understand that the child is already in its development and thinking formation, and there is also a possibility that these kids may acquire such traits which become detrimental. Even if a man whose principles are questionable is currently sitting in the White House, parents can still be able to make a difference to their children and educate them right so that they become real leaders of the future.
