Investigation Of Childcare Homes In Canberra Reveals Alarming Results; Kids Mistreated And Abused?

Richmond Fellowship CEO Wilf Rath believes that the adequacies of residential care are being affected by new consortium-tender procedures. After the ABC's Four Corners package had exposed accusations of children being put at risk, abused and mistreated, Rath was very concerned.

According to Rath, the problem lays with the profit-driven companies who only care about money. The not-for-profit organization functioned six homes run by at least of two staff associates for every shift, to defend against both mistreatment of children in the household and criticizing of carers by a childhood in care.

There are many allegations against the government like funds do not reach the needy properly or the hygiene of the houses is terrible or the staff is not even properly trained. According to News.com.au, a new proposal has been passed by the ACT in which a company provided all the facilities from birth to the age of eighteen. Even the workers are poorly paid and they also have imperfect management.

In August 2015, the Australian Services Union wrote to the ACT Government to inform employees at Premier Youthwork were under-classified and underpaid for work with little to no administration. Apart from the wages, there are also other problems such as fund insufficiency and the incompetence of the staff.

It is a given fact that every child care facility needs to have a special training to take care of the children properly and effectively. ABC News reported the Senator and Social Services minister Zed Seselja says that the revelations of the Four Corner are disturbing and shocking.

They also show that there are a lot of things needed to be done to improve in this sphere. But in contrary, ACT Minister Rachael Stephen said that she is confident with the measures they were taking. She has appointed three independently working official visitors, who used to check and report to her religiously.
