Is Racism More Evident Now? Teacher In Baltimore Caught On Video Using Racial Slurs, 'N' Word Towards Students

A science teacher at Harlem Park Elementary and Middle School was videoed using the "n" word towards her students and used other racial slurs. The teacher has since been fired.

Baltimore City Schools said in a statement that the teacher, who has not been identified and is white, taught science to eighth graders. The video showed the teacher standing still for a couple of seconds before going off with the racial slurs and the "n" word. Her full statement reads: "You're idiots. Do you wanna be a punk-ass n***** who's going to get shot? You're stupid! Learn something, be a man," Occupy Democrats reported.

The incident took place on Tuesday and the video was uploaded on YouTube. The video was said to be viewed more than 1.2 million times and shared more than 52,000 times.

ABC 2 reported that Baltimore City Schools added in their statement that they are committed to creating positive and equitable learning environments in school communities where all members are supported, valued, and welcome. They noted that no form of discriminatory behavior will be tolerated.

Baltimore City Schools CEO Dr. Sonja Santelises said during a press conference that the teacher attempted to regain right order within the classroom but the way the teacher did it crossed the boundary. It was unclear from the video why the teacher was getting mad at her students.

Some parents agreed with the teacher but she should have used proper words. One parent said that she believes the teacher's choice of words was what went wrong because if people were in the classroom with the students, they would know how they really act.

The parents said that these children sometimes do not respect adults and their teacher. Another parent argued that what the teacher said was disrespectful and should not have lost her temper. Meanwhile, the teacher has not yet released a statement regarding the matter.
