"The Originals" Season 4 may have a final chance to do a crossover with its flagship series "The Vampire Diaries" before it closes the curtains. In an interview with Nerdist, series creator Julie Plec said that they have always considered the possibility of doing one, but it all boils down to scheduling and right timing.

"The timelines won't end up lining episode to episode," she explained.

Plec shared that she is expecting to have one final moment wherein the vampires from Mystic Falls would have a chance to catch up with those from New Orleans in "The Originals" Season 4. This still remains a mystery, along with Nina Dobrev's return to "TVD" Season 8.

Plec admitted that doing a crossover between "The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries" was fun but it was very challenging. While these two shows are tied together, Plec shared that she hopes that the flagship series finale will not affect The CW spinoff series.

While the possibility of a final crossover is still a question, Entertainment Weekly reports on one vampire from "Vampire Diaries" joining "The Originals" Season 4. According to the publication, Alaric (Matt Davis) will be appearing in one episode.

This means that Alaric will be one of the few survivors from "TVD' Season 8. It remains to be seen, however, how Alaric's appearance in New Orleans will affect the Mikaelson family.

"The Originals" Season 4 premieres on March 17 on The CW.
