‘The Dark Crystal’ Sequel ‘The Power of the Dark Crystal’ Finally Launches after 35 Years, But It Won't Be A Movie

The 1982 film 'The Dark Crystal' has finally announced that a sequel will be released after 35 years since the movie came out. 'The Power of the Dark Crystal' will be released as a 12-part comic book issue next year.  

"The Dark Crystal" is a fantasy adventure movie in 1982 by directors Jim Henson and Frank Oz. The story revolves around the Gefling survivors, Jen and Kira, as they search for the lost shard of a magical gem in order restore balance to his planet, Thra, from the evil Skeksis who only uses the 'Dark Crystal' to replenish themselves.

The Skeksis was unleashed when the crystal cracked. Along with the Skeksis, the crystal also released kind wizards calls Mystics who advises Jen to search for the missing piece of the broken gem to thwart the Skeksis' evil plans.

After the release of the first film, Henson and his wife originally wrote the script of the sequel with the title 'The Power of the Dark Crystal'. It was never released but the fans can now read the sequel in comic form as it launches in bookstores and online stores on February 15, 2017, which coincides with 'The Dark Crystal' movie's 35th anniversary.

'The Power of the Dark Crystal' will be released by BOOM! Studios. It starts with the story of Jen and Kira years after they have defeated the Skeksis. They face new challenges as part of the crystal was stolen by a Fireling named Thurma to restore power to her people. Little did she know that by taking a part of the crystal, the Skeksis can break free and wreak havoc to the planet Thra.

After 35 years, 'The Dark Crystal' movie sequel 'The Power of the Dark Crystal' will finally be released and enjoyed by fans in 2017. The comic books are written by David Odell, Anette Odelle and Craig Pearce in partnership with Archaia and BOOM! Studios.
