Google Latest News, Release Date: Final Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview Now Available for Nexus 5X, 6P, 9, Pixel C

Google is fast-tracking the Nougat hype with the release of what seems to be the final Developer Preview of the new Operating System. The Android 7.1 build was recently released and in true form, follows the first preview last October which will cover the Nexus 5X, 6P, Nexus 9 and the Pixel C.

According to Android Developers Blog, the second iteration of the Android 7.1 Developer Preview will make users check if their "apps are ready for Android 7.1.1. In addition, who have previously enrolled in Google's Android Beta Program will receive an over-the-air (OTA) notification to the second Dev Preview, while those who have yet to test the Nougat waters can still have their devices enrolled.

It's not yet the final build of the Nougat, but the new Android preview is the "near-final" version of the new Operating System. Digital Trends said that Android 7.1.1 Developer Preview 2 will host a variety of bug fixes, "optimizations" and an updated Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Traditionally, build previews are rolled out for developers to test their new apps before the big day comes, and this installment is no exception. The website added that it will also use Android's Support Library (25.0.1), a tool Google created for developers to create "round icons, add keyboard images" and a lot more.

Google, as well as those who are following the new OS, has made it very clear that the last version of the Nougat will be pushed next month "to the full lineup of supported preview devices" alongside the newly released Google Pixel and Pixel HD. Ars Technica, however, said that the Android 7.1 "won't bring all of the features" of the new Pixel to the Nexus lineup. This means that the update will not come with the Google Assistant, Pixel Launcher and Daydream VR support.
