Radeon RX 490 New Leak, Latest Update: GPU Supports Virtual Reality, More Premium Specs; Expected To Arrive In 2017

AMD has been giving away series of new products like the most talked about AMD Zen Summit Ridge and the Radeon RX 490. The latter has not been officially confirmed by the company yet, but it is already being expected as a premium graphics card that would ignite competition with NVIDIA.

Tech enthusiasts reportedly spotted a substantial information of the anticipated Radeon RX 490 on the company's official website. The GPU apparently has support for 4K gaming with a memory interface with over 256bit. This means the Radeon RX 490 has larger memory capacity than what its siblings, Radeon RX 480 and RX 470 GPUs, offer.

The leaked information was rooted from the AMD's official website when the Radeon RX 490 had a few surprise appearances. The first two appearances were spotted on AMD's website while the third one was seen on Sapphire's website, according to WCCFTech.

As seen in the company's nomenclature slide, a tier 9 product is soon to be released in the RX 4XX series, which highly points at the Radeon RX 490. Aside from the 4K gaming and large memory interface, it is believed to have a VR support, a memory clock of 350MHz and base clock of 1,200 MHz, VideoCardz wrote.

The alleged specs of Radeon RX 490 made tech analysts believe that it may imminently be in tight competition with NVIDIA's hit GPUs, GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. Both graphics cards received praises from users due to their impressive specs for high-end performance. Radeon RX 490's price is also forecasted to be similar to the GTX 1080. The latter GPU is currently priced at $700.

As for the release date, Radeon RX 490 was supposed to come out this year but has to be pushed further to 2017. AMD did not explain the reason why, but it is believed that it has something to do with the Vega 10 architecture that the GPU will be based. The current models in the RX series are all Polaris-based architecture.

More details are expected to come for Radeon RX 490 so be sure to stay tuned in.
