Attainment Gap: British Children Lagging In Education Standards?

Children are learning a lot of things in preschools and it's not just in general ethics but also the basics skills of mathematics, language and learning various other disciplines. However, children in the United Kingdom are behind the standards of education when they enter primary schools.

There are multitudinal causes to this education lag among British kids. Earlier, students from adverse backgrounds were considered poor performers but recent data proved the earlier findings were a bit exaggerated as the difference between the classes is getting lesser each year. Studies also suggested that boys lag behind more than girls, according to BBC.

Educational experts are urging the government to increase the number of specially trained teachers. The importance of teaching little children should not be undermined. Poor children, due to unfavorable conditions start school later and as a result, they stay behind in their academic levels.

The shortage of teachers affect the late comers more as they have no earlier knowledge. Care Appointments reported that Kevin Watkins, CEO of Save the children, a charitable organization for the safety of children, stated that poor children are not given the opportunities to achieve a much better education.

These kids lag behind in basic subjects due to nonavailability of teachers. As a result, these numbers are increasing each year, which raised concerns in all institutions.

Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron criticized the government harshly and pointed out that the focus of the government is more into Grammar schools. Farron stressed that the main focus should be directed more towards providing facilities to low background children for their basic education so maximum benefit can be attained for children in general.

The U.K. Department of Education has also responded to these arguments. A spokesperson from the department stated that providing quality education to young children is among government's top priority, and it will continue to put efforts into the matter until the desired effects are produced.
