Living On Skid Row: Homeless Children Increasing In Los Angeles County?

Homes are shelters and they deliver a sense of protection to those who live in them. Unfortunately, the number of homeless people in the United States seems to be increasing every year.

According to Los Angeles Times, more than 63,000 children are homeless in Los Angeles County. These children come from Latin, white and black families that are considered underprivileged beyond average. These children live in shelter homes and endure great difficulties in life.

To help such children, a program called Schools on Wheels was initiated. Schools on Wheels Skid Row Learning Center aimed to help children with their studies by tutoring them after schools. This voluntary help enabled children to learn and study what they can't study in schools.

These homeless children are facing a lot of stress and bullying in schools. They cannot also pay much attention when it comes to learning education.

Life is hard for skid row children in many ways. It is an undeniable fact that these children are living without basic necessities and households. Food is a luxury for them and meals are often provided by the volunteers. However, these food services are not always organized and are not offered on a permanent basis.

Christianity Daily also highlighted that Los Angeles is the home to most homeless children and providing them with food is a major concern. A ministry named 5 Breads and 2 Fish is contributing a lot towards feeding the families.

Food companies voluntarily sponsor the ministry and provide them with supplies of different food items. People from religious circles such as Together Presbyterian Church also help in the cause and almost one thousand families are fed through the program.

With the help and support of such programs, these homeless children are living their lived a little better. However, more efforts must be done in other areas such as health, jobs and skill training to assist them in living a non-impoverished life.
