Ubisoft's 'Eagle Flight' and Other Upcoming VR Games Confirmed to Have Cross-Platform Play

One of the most common problems encountered when playing virtual reality games is the complicated process of cross-platform play between two different systems. Ubisoft aims to solve the problem by ensuring that all VR games are supported with cross-platform play, allowing users of Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and HTC Vive to play with one another.

"Eagle Flight" will be the first game that will be supported with cross-platform play. It is a first-person virtual reality simulation video game that allows players to fly as eagles over the post-apocalyptic streets of Paris. Players could be allowed to play together or race against others through cross-platform play regardless of the VR headsets they are using.

"Eagle Flight" was released on Oct. 18, 2016 on PS4 and Microsoft Windows and the company announced in its blog that the game will support cross-platform play starting tomorrow, Nov. 29, 2016. Players on Oculus Rift, PSVR and HTC Vive are allowed to access the cross- platform play that they could play against each other or even team up.

Ubisoft said that the cross-platform play for "Eagle Flight" is just the start. It announced that "Star Trek: Bridge Crew" and "Werewolves Within" will also allow the cross-platform play on their respective release dates according to Gaming Bolt.

David Votypka, senior creative director of Red Storm, said that it has always been their goal to make VR games supported with cross-platform. Red Storm is the developer of Ubisoft and it stands out from other Virtual Reality game makers since it focuses on providing multiplayer experiences on their gameplay according to IBT.

He also pointed out that it will contribute to the enhancement of the social nature of their games plus it will allow users of different VR headsets to interact with one another. It will also make players more excited as they can play what they envisioned VR games will be.
