Nintendo NES Classic Edition: Popular Console Returns To Toys R Us

Longtime fans of the popular Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Classic Edition console flocked several Toys R Us chains in the country on Sunday.

This comes after a spokesperson for the renowned toy chain announced on Thursday that it has a limited supply of the classic game console that took the world by storm back in the 80s. "Our stores are receiving shipments of both holiday must-haves to support and we expect that when stores open at 8 a.m., they will sell very quickly," the spokesperson said, according to CNBC.

On Sunday, longtime fanatics of the Hatchimals and NES Classic Edition consoles had already lined up outside the Toys R Us chain located on the Old Spanish Trail near a hospital in Houston, Texas. Cops were also nearby just in case chaos would ensue, according to ABC 13.

The selling of the NES Classic Edition, as well as Hatchimals, is part of Toys R Us' Big Christmas Sale, which runs from December 4 to 10. The console and toy were both sold at $60 each and it was expected that both were sold out on the same day.

Besides Toys R Us, shopping mall Target is also intending to obtain a brand new supply of the console, which comes in a tiny-sized version of the original version. "Target is actively working to meet guest demand, and will continue to replenish inventory throughout the season," a Target spokesperson said, according to Digital Trends.

The new NES Classic Edition is a smaller version of the original version of the console that was released in the 1980s. It comes with one NES controller and 30 pre-installed games including the "Super Mario Bros" games, as well as the original "Final Fantasy" games and the "Metroid" games.

And unlike the old version, the new NES Classic Edition now has a feature where a player can save the current state of the game at any given time. The player can then resume the game and pick up right where he or she left off.
