The Struggles Of Children With Special Needs: Why Their Families Won't Give Up

Every child deserves to get an education that could develop his potential to the maximum extent possible. These children need to be included in the education system and it's the responsibility of the society to make them feel normal.

Parents of children with special needs are always ready to try something new to make their child happy. Stuff New Zealand shares the journey of such a devoted father who lives with his son in New Plymouth New Zealand. Craig Neilsen has a five-year-old son named Zak. Zak has Global Development Delay and he functions at a two-year-old level.

The boy attends speech and language therapy classes in New Plymouth, as per Ministry of Education early intervention services. Nielsen being a father is concerned about his son's education and says that these classes are not enough for his mental development.

So in order to give his son the best education available, he drives six hours every week from Taranaki to Hamilton just to get Zak to Woodstock School Grounds. Nielsen pays to get Zak to the Hamilton Conductive Education Early Childhood unit. According to Nielsen, the education is highly beneficial for his son.

Ministry head of sector enablement and support Kim Shannon described that the staff devises the learning therapy while coordinating with the families of the children. The Ministry is also keen to provide them with the best care.

Another inspiring couple who had a son with special needs created a webpage, not just to share their journey but also to help other parents with the same situation. Cindiferrini blog tells the story of an extraordinary couple Joe and Cindi Ferrini. They give parental guidance to couples who are facing the challenges of raising up special children.

There is an online event section for practical help in parenting and a lot more for the families who go through this road. The website also has pictures of Joe and Cindi Ferrini with their son, as he went through different aspects of life. They remained by his side no matter how hard it seemed.
