Showrunner Marc Guggenheim Confirmed Similar Flashback Scene For ‘Arrow’ Season 5 Finale, Does It Hint Cancellation?

Showrunner Marc Guggenheim has recently revealed that the finale episode of "Arrow" season 5 will feature the similar flashback from the premiere episode, where Oliver will be seen looking at the boat he used to escape from Lian Yu. Apparently, it has been previously revealed that "Arrow" has been planned to end by featuring the same flashback from the pilot episode. Does the finale flashback hint on the cancellation of the series?

When the hit CW series "Arrow" made its debut in 2012, the executive producer Andrew Kreisberg mentioned at the TCA press tour that they plan to end the series the way they have started it. Looking back, the premiere episode featured a flashback scene of Oliver (Stephen Amell) while spying out on a boat that he could use to escape from Lian Yu.

In the said 2012 TCA press tour, Andrew Kreisberg revealed that the last episode of the series will feature a similar flashback, where Oliver will be seen looking at the boat that has rescued him in the premiere episode.

Now that Marc Guggenheim has confirmed about the season 5 finale flashback, should fans now begin to prepare themselves to bid goodbye to their beloved series? Fortunately, March Guggenheim told TVLine that the similar flashback plan has been superseded and does not point to the end of the series. Things have changed, and the showrunner believes the similar flashback is just essential to bring season 5 to an awesome finale.

Guggenheim also added that back in 2012, they were just thinking that "Arrow" would run for five years. So similar flashback to begin and end the show seems to be a legit plan, back then. However, Guggenheim also admitted that he no longer finds the similar flashback to be featured later as he also does not want to keep extending the flashback beyond season 5. Hence, the finale of season 5 now deems to be the best time to feature the similar flashback.

Meanwhile, "Arrow" season 5 episode 9 will air on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Fans can see Prometheous's evil schemes against Oliver and the team. Check out the promo video below.
