'Manchester by the Sea' News: One Of Golden Globes Top Nominee; Samuel L. Jackson Throws Shade, Says Flick Is "Oscar Bait"

"Manchester by the Sea" received a lot of nominations at the Golden Globes and it is a huge contender against "La La Land." However, it seems that not all are happy to see "Manchester by the Sea" as Samuel L. Jackson threw shade against the movie calling the flick an "Oscar bait."

If "Manchester by the Sea" is as impressive as it was for those who nominated the flick for next year's Golden Globes, it is possible that it would also pick up a lot of Oscar nominations. Although everyone is talking about "La La Land" and "Manchester by the Sea," Jackson made it a point during his remarks at Dubai International Film Festival on Thursday that he is wondering about the hype regarding the latter movie as he is not sure what people love about the flick.

Jackson was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award and became political when it came to movies that are garnering Oscar buzz. He shared that the politics of what happens during this time of the year is very interesting not only for him but the whole of Hollywood. He then went on to throw shade against "Manchester by the Sea" by saying, "The movies they choose to say are amazing and great, you know - 'Manchester by the Sea,' oh my god, you must see it, it's an amazing film!' But, ehh, I guess it is - to somebody."

The sarcasm about "Manchester by the Sea" continued as Jackson said that it is not an inclusive film just as "Moonlight" is. Another movie he did not clearly like is the "Collateral Beauty" flick of Will Smith. Jackson said that the film of Smith is another one of those flicks that would let people believe that life is wonderful. He went on to call "Manchester by the Sea," "Moonlight," and "Collateral Beauty" as "Oscar bait" flicks, The Wrap reported.

The other top nominees for the 2017 Golden Globes Awards are "Fences" and "Arrival," NJ.com reported. "Manchester by the Sea" was nominated for Best Picture for the Drama category, Best Actor for the Drama category, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Golden Globe Awards 2017 will be on January 8. It will be aired on NBC.
