'Broadchurch' Season 3 Spoilers, Cast News Update: Victim Revealed In First Photo? Chris Chibnall Promises 'Compelling, Emotional Farewell'

A new photo released for "Broadchurch" Season 3 provides a hint about the show's final story. It has earlier been made known that the final installment to the drama series will deal with sexual assault and it looks like victim has been revealed.

"Broadchurch" stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman as investigators Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller figure in the recent photo release, which was published on Radio Times. It also had one important detail -- the presence of Julie Hesmondhalgh as Trish Winterman in the background.

Julie Hesmondhalgh's casting on "Broadchurch" was announced in April, per Daily Mail. Yet pertinent details were kept hush-hush. The photo release suggests she's a key character and thus likely the sexual assault victim that will be the center of the story for Season 3.

According to the Dorset Echo, "Broadchurch" creator and writer Chris Chibnall had extensively researched the new case for a year with the help of the Dorset police. Being the final season, Chibnall hopes to deliver a "compelling and emotional farewell."

But the sexual assault story is not the only plot that will be tackled in the "Broadchurch" Season 3. The show is still bringing back many of its original stars. The Latimers - Beth and Mark - who are played by Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, as well as Ellie's son Tom (Adam Wilson), will likely have a much-deserved closure.

In first and second season of "Broadchurch," the Latimer's son and Tom's playmate died at the hands of Tom's dad. The whole time Ellie was investigating the case she didn't know her husband was the perpetrator.

"Broadchurch," which is a British series from ITV, was adapted for U.S. audience as the TV series "Gracepoint" for a one-season offering in 2014. The original show also airs on BBC America.
