'Minecraft' News & Update: Title Now Available On Apple TV; Check Out What Features Come With It

Players of the popular block-stacking game Minecraft is in for a treat this holiday season. Minecraft can now be played on the big screen via Apple TV, Apple's media streamer.

Minecraft: Apple TV Edition is rolling out in all regions and costs $19.99 at the App Store, PC Mag quotes the creative communications director of its developer Mojang as saying in a blog post. However, the Minecraft Realms is not yet available on the Apple TV edition.

Minecraft: Apple TV Edition will also come with seven downloadable contents for a limited period, including the skin packs Town Folk, Holiday 2015, and City Folk. The mash-ups Cartoon, Natural, Plastic, and Festive 2016 will also be downloadable.

As well as these new features, Mineceraft: Apple TV Edition has the Ender update, which was also launched for the game's Pocket and Windows 10 editions. Mojang said more features will be added "in the near future."

Engadget says Minecraft owes a big part of its success to its availability on almost all popular gaming platforms. Being on Apple TV, which was first announced in October during Apple's October MacBook Pro event, just took that a step further.

Minecraft is currently available on personal computers, smartphones, and the Xbox One. According to Digital Trends, its addition to the Apple TV is a welcome development as Apple is pushes the device to become a "poor man's gaming console."

Apart from being available on the streaming device, expect nothing that would make Minecraft: Apple TV Edition significantly different from the game on other platforms. Geek.com notes, however, that it does make playing the game more comfortable while sitting on the couch and in the comfort of your living area.

Through Minecraft: Apple TV Edition, you can also make playing Minecraft a shared experience with family and friends, instead of just sitting in a corner glued to your phone.
