Marijuana Sales Surges Over The Holiday Season

Marijuana sales significantly increased over the holidays. Recent reports mentioned that marijuana dispensaries and pot shop increased sales by more than 10 percent.

Baker, a marijuana software firm, announced that marijuana sales significantly increased by 21 percent just a week before December 25th. USA Today noted that two of the most ordered products are marijuana edibles including brownies and marijuana-infused cookies.

Aside from marijuana edibles, it was also mentioned that smoking accessories such as vaporizers, pipes and papers were also in demand. It was mentioned that marijuana holiday sales are expected.

"Holiday gift-giving is a perfect example of this once-taboo product making its way into the mainstream retail environment," Baker's CEO, Joel Milton said. "We have a feeling people will like cannabis gifts a lot more than a traditional ... box of chocolates."

With the gradual increase of marijuana sales since it was legalized, as of the latest update from the Rolling Stone, however, it was mentioned that DEA is set to declare marijuana extracts as Schedule 1 drugs. In a notice that they released on December 16, it was highlighted that CBD or cannabidiol and other marijuana extracts are illegal under federal law.

DEA defined the marijuana extract as "an extract containing one or more cannabinoids that hasbeen derived from any plant of the genus Cannabis, other than the separated resin (whether crude or purified) obtained from the plant."

The new announcement regarding the changes is said to help the administration get a closer look in regards to marijuana studies and marijuana extracts including CBD. The changes may be aimed to provide better understanding in regards to marijuana studies, it was mentioned that some organizations and groups were dismayed with the changes.

"It's common knowledge that CBD has numerous medical uses, including curbing the effects of epilepsy and reducing muscle inflammation from injuries. To deny that shows a complete disregard for the facts."
