Will Utada Hikaru Compose The Theme For 'Kingdom Hearts 3?'

Fans of the musician Utada Hikaru were thrilled when his father and manager, Utada Teruzane, announced on Twitter that she will compose the theme of the upcoming video game "Kingdom Hearts 3." That quickly faded, however, when Teruzane took his word back a day after.

Replying to a fan's tweet, Teruzane said on December 23 that Hikaru has already started working on the "Kingdom Hearts 3" theme. Several web sites like Techno Buffalo immediately reported on it, saying "Kingdom Hearts" will not be the same without Hikaru composing the theme. The day after, however, Teruzane, tweeted that their decision is not yet official although they are eager to do it.

Some fans of Hikaru and the "Kingdom Hearts" series were disappointed. One of them tweeted Teruzane, "I know it's probably not your intention, but you're kinda leading us on."

Teruzane might have been barred by a non-disclosure agreement from revealing details of his daughter's involvement in "Kingdom Hearts 3," Gaming Bolt reports. Still, many believe Hikaru is already on board and that it would be officially announced at a major event soon.

The Japanese-American singer and songwriter became popular for the songs she contributed to Square Enix and Disney's "Kingdom Hearts" series, such as "Simple and Clean" for the first installment and "Sanctuary" for "Kingdom Hearts 2." In 2009, the Japan Times named Hikaru the most influential artist of the decade.

First announced in 2013, "Kingdom Hearts 3" is still under development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game's director Tetsuya Nomura recently assured fans that "Kingdom Hearts 3" is on track and will be released in due time after "Kingdom Hearts 2.8," the International Business Times reports. "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" is expected to be launched in early January.

Aside from the possibility of Hikaru composing its theme song, "Kingdom Hearts 3" will have a lot to offer its fans. Nomura has hinted that players will have a new combat system called Situation Commands and that the character Sora will be compelled to level up his magical skills instead of getting immediate access to strong spells.
