Carrie Fisher, Best Known For 'Star Wars' Role As Princess Leia, Dead At 60; Decorated Actress Suffered From Heart Attack

The "Star Wars" actress who took on the role of the iconic Princess Leia has died at the age of 60. Carrie Fisher suffered from heart attack before she passed away.

Aside from being an actress, Fisher is also an author and a screenwriter. Fisher suffered a massive heart attack on December 23. The spokesman for the family, Simon Halls, said in a statement that the daughter of Fisher, Billie Lourd, confirmed that her mother passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Time reported. Halls added in the statement, "She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers."

Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday when she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics removed the actress from the flight and took her to a nearby hospital. Carrie is the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher.

Rolling Stone reported that the mother of Carrie also released a statement thanking everyone who embraced the gifts and talents of her daughter, whom she called amazing. The "Star Wars" creator, George Lucas, also said that Carrie will be missed by all noting that she had a very colorful personality and was a smart, talented actress, writer and comedienne.

Harrison Ford, the actor who played Han Solo in "Star Wars," also released a statement calling Carrie a one-of-a-kind, brilliant, and original person. He extended his thoughts to the family and fans of Carrie.

Carrie made her Broadway debut as a teenager in "Irene." She made her big screen debut in the 1975 flick "Shampoo." She also enrolled in London's Central School of Speech and Drama as well as at Sarah Lawrence College.

She also appeared in other flicks like "The Blues Brothers," "When Harry Met Sally," "The Burbs," and "Hanna and Her Sisters." Carrie was slated to reprise her Princess Leia role in the upcoming "Star Wars" Episode VIII and Episode IX. She is survived by her mother, her daughter, and her dog, Gary.
