Why The 'Training Day' TV Adaptation Is Going To Become Controversial, According To Actress Katrina Law

The TV adaptation of the 2001 movie "Training Day" is premiering on CBS on Thursday, Feb. 2. Bill Paxton will lead the show as the veteran officer Frank Rourke, which Denzel Washington played in the movie. He will be paired with Justin Cornwell as the young police officer that Ethan Hawke portrayed in the movie.

Katrina Law is also in the TV show as one of the detectives. The actress recently said via New York Daily News that "Training Day" is likely going to become controversial because it will depict police behavior.

"It's the line in the sand of what's acceptable behavior for our police force and what's not acceptable behavior," Katrina Law said. She hinted that the show will portray some scenes that are relevant to issues in real life, particularly race. "It's the notion of -- do the ends justify the means?" she teased.

The TV adaptation will be set in present-day, hence it's not a continuation of the Denzel Washington-Ethan Hawke starrer. The two actors are not expected to appear on the show as well. But Law said that Washington is aware of the series and is supportive of it.

Last summer, CBS released "Training Day's" first look during the Television Critics Association panel. There have been concerns that the TV adaption might fail given as many movie-turned-TV-series have not had much success, including "Limitless," "Rush Hour" and "Uncle Buck," which all aired on network.

But CBS executive Glenn Gellar expressed full confidence in this newest cop series, especially since Antoine Fuqua is involved as its executive producer. "I think Training Day has just as good a shot as any and it happens to be a great show," Gellar said, according to Slash Film.
