Two Missing Sisters Found Alive After 31 Years, Father Relieved Kids Are Safe And Well

The case of the missing children, Kimberly and Kelly Yates, was a mystery for three decades until today as authorities have confirmed the two sisters are living under new identities and are alive. The father of the two kids believed that their mother took them and now, he is thankful they are safe, well and alive.

Officials reported the two children were carried away from their home in Rhode Island by their mother Elaine Yates on Aug. 26, 1985. Kimberly was only 10-months-old while Kelly was three-years-old. A warrant was issued against Elaine in 1988 but she was never found.

In 1986, Elaine's mother was sued as the father believed she knew where they were, Daily Star reported. The mother-in-law died in 2000 and have never told the father of the children where they were.

The father of the children, Russell, was originally granted custody of his children as he and Elaine underwent divorce proceedings. According to reports, Russell and Elaine had an argument regarding him being unfaithful to her and she threatened to leave him and take the kids with her. He also acknowledged that he punched her during the argument and one night when he came home from work, his family was gone.

There has been no word yet from the sisters, now aged 32 and 35, or if they will be meeting with their father. Russell did say that the sisters now have his phone number. He added that he always tried to find his children and it is now up to them if they want to get in touch with him.

The mother of Kelly and Kimberly was arrested on an abduction charge on Monday, CBS News reported. The mother's name was changed to Liana Lynn Waldberg. She pleaded not guilty on Wednesday and was allowed to return to her home with the requirement of signing a waiver of extradition and surrender her passport. A court hearing was scheduled on Feb. 1 and Feb. 15.

An anonymous tip was given two days before Christmas, which led a break to the case of Kimberly and Kelly Yates. The sisters were not living with their mother but they're in good health. Russell said that prosecuting his wife would not help him or anybody else and the only thing he wants to happen now is to see his kids.
